How the theme manifests throughout the book

How the theme manifests throughout the book
In the book there are different ways each family has a sense of belonging and family. It manifest all throughout the book in the Jongas family and the Edwards family. Each character has family and belonging or the lack thereof. In each paragraph there will be examples of how each family does or does not show a sense of family and belonging.
The Jongas show a sense of family and belonging because first of all they keep strong connections with their family back in Cameroon. Also another way they show this is because they provide mighty with emotional support and they show him their culture threw the food. Food is a source of connection. Even though mighty is not their son they still know that mighty needs a family and belonging so they treat him as if he was their son. Mighty becomes good friends with Liomi and that also gives him a sense of belonging.
The Edwards are a different story with sense of belonging and family. Throughout the story they are not a tight family. Cindy is always stressing about not being enough for her husband and she is worrying about him cheating which he was and her son wanting to move away to India. There family is not a tight family. Cindy tries her best to have family and belonging but her family is just not in a good place and she never got to feel that feeling of having a really close family.
In conclusion the Jongas know the meaning of family and belonging and whereas the Edwrads do not. The Jongas are a close family and the Edwards family is full of mistrust, stress and many other things that keep them from feeling belonging and family. There are many ways each family shows that they know the meaning of it and there are also ways each family shows they still need to work at it a little.
